Today’s blog will be a bit short – not much to write home about, I guess. A good day of riding, but we really didn’t find a lot of exciting things along the way.
Before the ride even began, I had a mechanical issue. I noticed when getting ready this morning that my front tire was flat. I’m glad I found it at the hotel – a lot easier to change out a tube when not sitting in the hot sun. I found the culprit: a small but very sharp stone had punctured my tire and tube. With that short drill out of the way, we quickly loaded up and got riding.
The first 20 miles of today’s route were along busy areas of central Florida. We were on dedicated paths for nearly all of the route, but we paralleled busy roads all morning. We estimate we had to cross around 30-40 roads using crosswalks. It made for a long ride of stop-and-go.
The last 25 miles were more enjoyable with paths that went through some forested areas and small towns. We stopped briefly in Winter Garden at their bike shop to get a fresh patch kit in case I have any more issues. I really like that town! I will have to come back and visit sometime in the future.
We arrived at the Minneola Inn on Lake Minneola in the early afternoon. Showering and food completed the usual routine.
Today was another hot day. We’ve got a bunch of road miles tomorrow and the weather is going to be sunny and warm again. We’ll try to get going much earlier and avoid as much heat as possible. Early bedtime!
Peace, Dcn. Matt
